Weddings for up to 30 guests still permitted in Wales - Bookings now being accepted for our Intimate Wedding Package
25/09/2020, 12:01 hrs
We have been advised directly by the Powys Registry office, that Mark Drakeford First Minister for Wales, has confirmed that he is not changing the size of weddings in Wales and they are to remain at 30 people. The Welsh Government will be closely monitoring the situation with weddings on a monthly basis.

Wedding Availability 2020

It is with regret that due to the ongoing coronavirus situation, Boris Johnson on 20.03.20 at 17:03 hrs advised that Pubs Clubs Restaurants Cafes and Bars were to close at midnight on 20/03/2020. Subsequently weddings for up to 30 guests have been allowed, though many restrictions apply and this 30 limit also includes some of the suppliers present on your Day. This means for 2020 the only wedding package you can book is currently the Intimate Wedding Package shown here.

Please read our Coronavirus Page for full details of our postponement policy and procedure.

We will re-open for larger wedding receptions as soon as the Government allows us to and when it is viable to do so. Most Couples prefer the ability to hold a full event type wedding where everyone can relax and feel at ease, and where you know you and your guests of all ages are safe. A wedding should be a great party - a Special Day and a celebration of two families joining together, a day that you dream to have and will remember for all the right reasons. As of September 2020, this dream wedding day does not look to be possible until social distancing rules are removed. We remain hopeful about a longer term solution being devised, by Spring 2021, be it testing & tracing, a vaccine, or improved treatment. Most larger weddings are postponing to 2021 anticipating we'll be fully re-opening then.

We continue to accept Last Minute 'weekend' weddings into 1st Qtr 2021 and are accepting new wedding package bookings for 2021 and 2022. 'Viewings' by appointment only (as castle is closed otherwise) can be booked now.

If you want to get married in 2020, we also offer Ceremony Only weddings. You can only have a few 'socially distanced' guests in the opera house, possibly with welcome drinks served in the courtyard afterwards, but no actual event or reception party. You would then hold your wedding reception and main party in 2021, with a Celebrant conducting your full wedding Ceremony - read more here on your 2021 wedding day.

We may find we can accept Last Minute weddings into late 2020 - maybe Nov and Dec 2020 - contingent on restrictions being eased by then. For now we are booking a handful of 'Intimate Weddings' for 2020 as weddings up to 30 are allowed (but no full evening party as such).

We offer free transfer if any coronavirus lockdown resumes. Aside from small weddings and ceremony only weddings we suggest for 2020 that you wait until Government says venues can re-open fully.

24/03/20: Following the Prime Minister's statement on 23/03/20 the Castle is now closed other than for security, key management personnel and live-in maintenance staff. The majority of reception, front of house, wedding planning staff are now furloughed and required to stay at home. Please can everyone email us rather than phone us. Or use the Chat Service on the website. Wedding Planners working still from home can still take incoming emails and answer queries on our chat service but cannot take phone calls.

Check your wedding date is available, then Book Your Viewing Appointment.

  • As of 23/09/2020, Months shaded yellow can for time being accept new wedding bookings for the Intimate Wedding Package ONLY

  • Bank Holidays, New Year's Eve, Christmas Eve, Valentine's Day etc only qualify for the Saturday Wedding Package (as above)

Colour shaded dates are booked - see colour table for type of wedding. Any unshaded date is still available to book (provided we can re-open in that month).

Coronavirus has resulted in most 2020 weddings shifting into 2021 with free transfers on their old rates, in accordance with our Coronavirus Policy here.

Date changes are now taking place regularly and routinely. To keep track of this and to enable existing clients to pick dates that are available, this page and 2021 wedding availability are updated regularly.

Some new colours exist to show the changes:

1. Yellow shaded dates with black font are 'new weddings' that have reserved but not yet booked. Many reserved dates before a viewing.

2. Yellow 2021 dates with red font are 'pencilled in' new dates for 2020 weddings who have reserved this later date but not yet moved.

3. Unshaded 2020 dates with purple font are dates vacated by 2020 weddings moving forward to a later date.

4. Shaded dates in various wedding package colours with a red font are weddings that have shifted into their new date, from an earlier date.

All 'moved dates', once confirmed, revert to their normal 'confirmed' colours according to the type of wedding package booked, see wedding colour codes here.

This lovely letter is from the very last wedding we were able to hold in mid Feb 2020 before the closure of all wedding venues due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Dear Martin,

Can I send you a huge thank you to you and your wonderful team. From the first time you opened the door to your beautiful castle, you are greeted with such warmth and a beautiful smile, this smile continues throughout your amazing castle of Craig-Y-Nos.

It is so, so important to have good people in your team Martin, but you have amazing people, people who care not only about Craig-Y-Nos but for every guest who walks through its doors. I have been to many many hotels, guest houses, even other castles but I have never come across such warmth, your team are amazing Martin and you should be immensely proud of them.

You, your amazing team and your stunning historic castle made my Madison, and my new son-in-law Zak's special day even more special and memorable, I know Craig-Y-Nos will hold a very special place not only in their hearts, but in 70 other hearts too!

It was the most amazing day Martin and your team played such a monumental part of the day. Can I especially mention Jack who set the stage, Kelly who went beyond being helpful, young smiling Patricia, and of course Molly and Adrianne in Wedding Coordination.

Can you relay on to every member of your team from the wonderful ladies on the reception, to the bar team, to the dining hall team and the rest of the team you see but also all the team behind the scenes your amazing chefs, cleaning team, maintenance team to all of you a massive thank you!!

We have attached a few images which we are happy for you to use in marketing materials

With heartfelt thanks.

MT

Michael Ludwig (Business Mgr) replies:

Dear Mark

Thank you for your comments which have brought a tear to my eye this evening. It is great to get such good feedback from our customers but also from their family.

Martin, our MD, has asked me to respond to you also as I deal with all the feedback and personnel side of things at the Castle and one of the things that  truly believe is that it is the staff “in whatever capacity” that in the main make our events as good as they are.

The fact that you have named many, goes to show that clearly our staff have done something to get noticed and I would like to thank you personally for your kind words – your feedback goes to all the staff and I am sure that they will be please to read your comments – certainly I am always proud of the team but when heard from a customer, it is that much more special.

Your images are spectacular and clearly you are proud of the lovely couple – these images, will appear online on our website, and on Facebook too, in due course.

All the best Michael

CORONAVIRUS INFO

Only unshaded dates are available to book.

2020 dates - E.G. FOR OVERSEAS WEDDINGS OR CHURCH WEDDINGS* LOCALLY THAT HAVE BEEN CANCELLED AND WHERE COUPLE WANT TO MARRY IN UK AT SHORT NOTICE

Most 2020 weddings that wish to have now moved or are moving their wedding date in accordance with the Coronavirus Advisory page to later dates. You can identify dates released are this colour.

Smaller weddings such as our Intimate Wedding Package can now be booked in 2020 but with a lot of restrictions on what you can actually do and at the risk of existing conditions changing in the winter.

You need to give a minimum of a month's notice to the Registrar - call 01597 827468. Email is registrar@powys.gov.uk. While 'social distancing' restrictions remain, larger 2020 weddings should move forward to 2021. Only smaller weddings and last minute weddings (which are smaller) may be practical for 2020.

Please refer to our Coronavirus Advisory page on all this.

As Quarantine was lifted, you were able to hold a Ceremony Only wedding. Now small weddings of up to 30 are possible but not in much demand. Mostly we will remain closed until Coronavirus is sufficiently under control for the Government to allow venues to re-open in a viable manner - e.g. with a minimum of 50 guests and a proper wedding day being allowed. Most Couples view postponement as a better option than a very small wedding where your guests cannot join you on the dance floor!

We will not hold any wedding bookings to any 'normal' postponement terms when and if you need to move the date due to Coronavirus. This is all entirely out of your hands. We will make it as easy as possible for clients to follow Gov't guidelines. This continuing uncertainty is bad for everyone, not least all of our Couples who have worked so hard to plan their perfect day. However do not despair. All your plans (aside from the date) can still go ahead ultimately - just at a later date. Hopefully not too far in the future!

As someone once said to me of a bad period, this too will pass. A year from now we will hopefully be fully back to normal though with a very memorable year behind us. A vaccine or a cure will be found eventually - or just good testing and contact tracing. The 'new normal' of 'social distancing' cannot continue forever and is not practical for a wedding celebration when everyone wants to get together. A wedding is the most important day of your life and should be remembered for all the right reasons. We know it will all be sorted out eventually. Once it is, you, your guests, and all of us here at Craig y Nos, will all have to P A R T Y - when we are allowed to again....

2 night breaks deal

A Friday wedding offers great value and means your guests can stay overnight on the Thursday on our midweek discount tariff, a great value two day break for your guests.

Provided there is low B&B use by a Last Minute / Winter Wedding on a Friday there'll be accommodation available for a Saturday wedding's guests to stay over on the Friday too, subject to availability. Last Minute weddings (showing in pink) are often smaller weddings, so two night breaks can be booked by guests of most winter weddings.

To Emily, the entire wedding team, and every single staff member at Craig y Nos Castle,

Words fail me to truly get across what an amazing day we had on Saturday!

You were utterly outstanding in every way. From the night before, the lovely lady working reception took care of so much for us; ordering us food and putting the boys up last minute into the nursing block!

You turned around the wedding the day before so fast and made sure I had plenty of time to get in and start decorating what I needed to. You were so helpful from the get go.

The day of the wedding was the most incredible day of my life and I can’t thank you enough for making it the dream day I had hoped and more! I cannot fault a single staff member. You all worked tirelessly during the day to make sure everything was running smooth. It literally went without a hitch. Emily you were an amazing coordinator, and the event staff all of them amazing. I am sorry I didn’t get names now as I would love to mention a few in particular but I know they know who they are! Everyone commented on how amazing you all were and how you all looked like you wanted to be there!

The food was delicious, the service was next to none and moving on into the night for our evening reception, the bar staff were friendly and attentive. The buffet was plentiful! Even the morning after, staff were still so helpful, returning items we had left, making sure we had everything we needed before departing and serving an amazing breakfast for us all.

Emily, thank you for your card and the little touches. We are ever so grateful to have had you coordinate our wedding day, especially during a time of such difficult circumstances for yourself! We are forever grateful to you and all the team for making the 6th July 2019 the most special day of our entire lives.

We will be back as much as we can to enjoy the beautiful castle, grounds, food, rooms and our new found friends in all of you!, All our love and thanks, C & B, and our whole wedding party!
